Membership

Become a NYCLA Member


All NYCLA Memberships are in effect for a calendar year and expire on December 31st. If you join NYCLA anytime other than December, your second-year dues, as well as any section or committee dues will be pro-rated according to the month in which you join. All dues are non-refundable.
 
New York County Lawyers Association is an exempt organization as described in Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Please note that only the portion of your dues that exceeds the value of any goods and services available to you is tax-deductible.
 

Non-Voting Categories

Members in the non-voting categories are entitled to all privileges of the Association except voting and holding office

Law Student


Law school student enrolled in a JD or LLM program

Law school graduate with a JD or LLM degree, not yet admitted to the Bar of the State of New York
*Membership in the Law School Graduate category is limited to 2 years.

Active Voting Categories

Members in active voting categories are entitled to all privileges of the Association including voting and holding office

Licensed Attorney


Newly Admitted - Admitted to the Bar of the State of New York for less than 1 year
Active 1 - Admitted to the Bar of the State of New York for 1-2 years
Active 2 - Admitted to the Bar of the State of New York for 3-7 years
Active 3 - Admitted to the Bar of the State of New York for 8-12 years
Active 4 - Admitted to the Bar of the State of New York for 13-20 years
Active 5 - Admitted to the Bar of the State of New York for 21+ years

Sustaining Member


A Member who elects to be a sustaining member in any year shall not be obligated to continue as such in any subsequent year.

Sustaining Members shall be entitled to all privileges available to the class of membership from which such Member has elected to take sustaining membership.

Associate Member


Members of the Bar of the Sate of New York, or of any other state, territory, District of Columbia or foreign country, who neither practice nor reside within the city of New York shall be eligible for Associate Membership.

Senior Lawyer


Attorneys no longer licensed to practice; or licensed as an Emeritus, or substantially retired from the practice of law
